ABOUT

Fine Art Photographer. Educator. Observer of Light, Time, and Mood.

Scott Reither is an internationally recognized fine art landscape photographer, educator, and writer whose work explores the quiet interplay between light, time, space, and form. For over 20 years, he has earned his living solely through photography—building a life and career rooted in seeing, stillness, and the pursuit of something deeper.

Born and raised along the rugged California coastline near Big Sur and now based in Maui, Scott’s photographs are influenced by the landscapes that have shaped him. His long-exposure images carry a sense of spaciousness and restraint, offering viewers not just something to look at—but something to feel. They are less about what the eye sees and more about what the heart intuits. Each frame is an invitation to slow down and engage more deeply with the world.

Scott’s work has earned over 85 international awards and is held in luxury resorts such as the Four Seasons and Waldorf Astoria, as well as in private and corporate collections across the globe. His collectors include professional athletes, team owners, Fortune 500 CEOs, and Hollywood actors—individuals drawn to the beauty of his work and the presence it evokes.

The Spark

Scott’s path began unexpectedly on a six-month-long journey through Southeast Asia in his 20s. A single, quiet moment photographing a monk in Kathmandu changed everything. It wasn’t just the image—it was the feeling of connection it created. That moment revealed photography not just as a way to document the world but as a way to engage with it, to connect with it, and to express something personal through it.

From there, his trajectory was set. The camera became his companion, and the landscape—his teacher.

Finding the Work Within

As Scott honed his craft, his approach matured into something more profound than technique. Time spent photographing the same stretch of coast over 200 days a year taught him that great photography doesn’t come from chasing the dramatic but from showing up—over and over—and learning to see more clearly.

Long exposures became his medium of choice, not for the effect alone, but for the feeling. They allowed him to move past the literal, into the interpretive—capturing not just what was there, but what was felt. His photographs are crafted with intention, often minimal in composition but rich in mood, carrying a quiet clarity that lingers.

A month spent in silence at a Zen monastery further deepened his dedication to restraint and presence. These values now inform everything he does—from how he works in the field to how he curates, prints, and presents his finished work.

The Educator’s Path

Though Scott came to teaching later in his career, it has become a meaningful extension of his work. He’s now guided over 350 photographers through private and small group workshops and destination tours across the globe.

His goal is not just to teach the fundamentals—he aims to help photographers develop a more personal connection with their craft. He believes great photography begins with presence, deepens through curiosity, and matures through editing, refining, and finding your unique voice.

His mentoring is grounded in real-world experience—not only as a photographer, but also as a former gallery director and art consultant who has sold over $4 million in fine art photography. This gives him a rare perspective on both the artistic and professional sides of the craft.

The Ongoing Journey

Scott’s photographs have been exhibited internationally, collected widely, and featured in museums, publications, and luxury spaces—but for him, the most meaningful moments are often the quiet ones:

A collector moved to emotion by an image.
A student unlocking a new way of seeing.
A fleeting sliver of light transforming the ordinary into the sublime.

This is what he lives for. This is why he photographs.

And this is what The Curated Landscape was created to share.

A Personal Note

“I never set out to build a brand or chase recognition. I simply followed what moved me—what asked for my attention. Over time, that pursuit became my life’s work.

I believe photography is about presence. It’s about seeing—not just with your eyes, but with your whole being. It’s a mirror, a practice, a language. And when done with honesty, it becomes a form of connection—between the photographer and the subject, and between the image and the viewer.

I wrote more about that deeper purpose here.

I hope this space gives you something to think about, something to feel, and something that invites you to grow.

I’m glad you’re here.”
